AMAZING ECO HOUSE. RECYCLED MATERIALS, CEBU, PHILIPPINES

A look at the Philippine Cebu City Council Nestor Archival's Eco House.

From WIN Women involved in Nation Building

WIN officers visited the Archival Eco-House in Cebu City on June 16, 2010. The Eco-House compound is owned and managed by Councilor Nestor Archival of Cebu City, one of the 10 outstanding councilor of the Philippines.

Key features of the eco-house compound are recycling of garbage, waste water, vermi composting, bio-gas facilities, use of solar panels and wind mills and generator electricity.

Also included in the compound are a gouting, apiary, organic garden, carpentry shop and brick making for foot path. The Archival Eco-House is another shining example of care for the environment. WIN officers look forward to sharing the observation with the WIN members and emulating the good practices observed. Photo shows Councilor Archival with the WIN officers.

Archival opens eco-house to public

CEBU, Philippines - Former Cebu City councilor Nestor Archival has opened for public viewing, his 7,000 square-meter eco-residence, called “House-Close To Nature,” in his effort to promote eco-lifestyle and offer eco-tourism facilities in Cebu.Former Cebu City councilor Nestor Archival has opened for public viewing, his 7,000 square-meter eco-residence, called “House-Close To Nature,” in his effort to promote eco-lifestyle and offer eco-tourism facilities in Cebu.

Located in Talamban, Archival’s residence is now one of the newest eco-tourism destinations included in the itineraries of tourism operators in Cebu. A quick-tour to the eco-friendly abode would only cost a minimal amount for every tourist, which already includes organic lunch or snacks.

“This is my advocacy. I want to show to the people that maintaining an eco-friendly household is not impossible. In fact, it is inexpensive,” Archival said during a press tour to officially open his residence for commercial use.

The eco-house is a showcase of manifold green initiatives; recycling schemes and recycled waste products, water treatment and solid waste management, synergized in biogas digester, vermin composting and organic food production.MORE

Ecoliving to the extreme

CEBU CITY, Philippines--The Earth, Wind and Sun Compound in Barangay Talamban here has become something of a tourist attraction.

No, the students, government employees, academics and workers of nongovernment organizations, among others, do not flock to the compound on weekdays to gawk at exotic animals or frolic in white sand beaches.

Rather, they marvel at the ingenious ways by which the Archival family members built their life and home--worthy of an Architectural Digest spread--firmly around the 3Rs of recycling, reusing and reducing.

Stand by the veranda leading to the main entrance and you will see aluminum soft drink cans that were filled with cement and fashioned into strong railings. Also at the veranda are used spools of large electrical wires that were varnished and turned into functional coffee tables.

The main door, meanwhile, is made of strips of scrap wood that were hammered and stuck together--another product of recycling construction waste that homeowner Nestor Archival readily gets his hands on, being one of the country's leading contractors of electrical work with such clients as Cebu Holdings Inc. of the Ayala group.MORE
